Players who dive or fein injury in the Premier League this season will face a two game suspension if found guilty as the FA voted unanimously for retrospective bans last May.
Incidents will be reviewed by a panel which is comprised of a former manager, a former player and a former referee who will watch the incident independently - they will not watch the footage together.
It would seem as if their new plan will be nearly impossible to enforce as the three man panel all have to be in agreement whether it is a dive or not, and the ban only applies if it results in a penalty or a sending off.
If a player admits to a charge of successfully deceiving an official, or is found to have done so, any yellow or red card given to an opposing player, as a result of the deceit, can be rescinded.
The new rule will apply across not only the Premier League but also to the Football League.
However, the FA currently have the same system in place for incidents of foul play, e.g. if the referee did not see the incident during the game or if the referee did not take any action during the game.
Today the FA released their 13-person panel of former managers, players and referees that will review the incidents,
Former Managers and Players
- Nigel Adkins
- Rachel Brown-Finnis
- Terry Butcher
- Lee Dixon
- Alex McCleish
- Danny Murphy
- Chris Powell
- Trevor Sinclair
Former Match Officials
- Keren Barratt
- Steve Dunn
- Mike Mullarkey
- Alan Wiley
- Eddie Wolstenholme
Any of the panel will be called upon to review incidents of diving or simulation, however any sort of conflict of interest, e.g. if the former player has played for the club and or, the former manager has managed the club, they will be exempt from adjudicating on the panel.
