One way or another, the best striker he can get his hands on has to be top of Brendan Rodgers wish-list this summer. After one season of relying on an injured Daniel Sturridge, the Liverpool boss simply can't afford another and that has become even more painfully clear.
Sturridge's horrendous injury record over the past 12 months will continue after it was confirmed he would miss the start of next season. The England striker is set to undergo hip surgery in New York this week and will sit out at least the opening month of the 2015/16 campaign.
Despite the lengthy lay-off, Liverpool are sending out positive vibes over the latest development. The surgery is expected to finally sort out Sturridge's hip trouble. However, even if that is true, Liverpool will have to dig deep this summer with Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini all expected to leave Anfield this summer.
With no Sturridge for at least a month, that would mean Liverpool are going to need a minimum of two high quality strikers to fill the void. When you consider that the much discussed transfer committee, couldn't find one last year, that will be easier said than done.
