When Luke Shaw went down with an apparent head injury after a clash with Spain's Dani Carvajal on Saturday evening, many feared the worst.
The Manchester United left-back had started the season so well, seemingly putting his past injury and fitness issues behind him. Then the collision with the Spanish fullback happened.
Shaw lost consciousness almost immediately. The players on the pitch were clearly concerned, including the player he collided with.
The England man was then carried off the field on a stretcher while wearing an oxygen mask.
According to Marca, the Real Madrid defender immediately sought out the player in the dressing room after the conclusion of the game, only to be told that he had been brought to hospital for an MRI.
This did not stop the Spaniard from extending his best wishes to Shaw. He asked goalkeeper David De Gea for his clubmate's phone number, texting him to express his regrets over the incident.
Luckily the injured player was able to respond to the message personally, and he put Carvajal's mind at ease by acknowledging that it was just an unfortunate coming together and there was no malice on the Spain player's behalf.
Thank you for all the love and support I am doing fine and am in the best hands. I’m a fighter so I will be back soon! ❤💪🏼
