If you've ever watched a game in La Liga, you'll have noticed that most footballers and managers converse with their hands covering their mouths far more frequently than their counterparts in England. The reason for this is the Spanish media, as they use lip readers to study the tapes of the biggest games to work out what those involved said to each other.
In the heat of play, however, it is difficult to bite your tongue to allow time to cover it, however, meaning that Sunday's remarkable Clasico at the Bernabeu has provided some rich material.
Cristiano Ronaldo's furious reaction to Leo Messi's last-second winner was revealed last night, for example, and it was quite entertaining:
Make a foul, fuck, make a foul!
Further investigative work by Movistar - which can be viewed here - has revealed some of Dani Carvajal's trash talk to Luis Suarez during the game. Suarez was largely ineffective throughout the game, bar being denied by Keylor Navas from close-range before bumping a defender out of the way with his arse to ensure Leo Messi's winner went toward the bottom corner unhindered.
Instead, Suarez spent most of the game feuding with Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal, and the Spanish lip readers have shone some light on what was said to Suarez by the Spanish defender.
Here's the translation:
You lost to Juventus 0-3. Go and rest for the Copa del Rey and watch the Champions League at home. This is the home of the champions.
That's not exactly correct by Carvajal: Barcelona are the reigning Spanish champions, in a season in which Luis Suarez ended as top scorer with 40 (!) goals. There is a bit of snark there, though: Suarez is suspended for the Copa del Rey final having been sent off in the semi-final against Atletico Madrid.
Overall pretty lame by Carvajal, and we assume he heard much worse during his recent trip to the Kerry Championship.
