Duff being picture at the game, which was live on Setanta, sparked theories that he was going to sign for Pat's.

Speaking to the FAI, the former Ireland international revealed that even his own mother believed it.

My ma, she was upset... she thought I was signing for Pats and I hadn't told her.

We were obviously there analysing the game, we then had to put a session on today relating to the game.

Longford got pumped 3-nil, probably outclassed from start to finish. Unfortunately I got Longford attacking so I had to work on that this morning.

Duff said that it was never his dream to play for a specific League of Ireland and at this point in his career, he just wants to play football.

When you're across in England for 20 years, you can't get to see games.

I don't really have an affiliation with a team.

So it's not as if I'm coming home and I support a team and it's my dream to play of them.

I just want to play football, hopefully.

He went on to describe Chris Forrester's opening goal against Longford as "amazing".
