There was something of a changing of the guard on RTE tonight: the panel for the Irish game consisted of Richie Sadlier, Didi Hamann and Damien Duff.
Liam and Eamon had the night off. Eamo, presumably, was off watching Dundalk.
So with Eamo off, the Wes Hoolahan discussion was considerably less than what we're used to. In the void, this allowed the RTE panel discuss a number of disparate issues, with one of those being the performance of James McClean.
The Derryman was vital in creating space for Ireland's opening goal, before scoring his side's second and third goals to ensure a victory in patchy circumstances.
Duffer was suitably impressed, and seemed genuinely delighted for McClean. It was also intriguing to hear him talk of how he's had his eye on McClean as he came into the Irish side at the expense of Duffer.
Watch a clip below:
Duff went on to say that he believes McClean won tonight's game single-handedly.
It's great to hear Duffer talk with such affection, and also give a level of contemporary insight beyond the traditional panel.
