Strange news this morning that UEFA has decided to rob Damien Duff of his 97th cap in international football - Ireland's match in the thunderstorm against Hungary in Budapest in early June - because of some ref issue. This means that the beautiful poignancy of Duff captaining Ireland in his final match, his 100th cap and final match has been obliterated. Thanks, Platini.
There is no only one recourse - Duff must return for the Germany match on October 12. Not only that, he must captain Ireland. This is a lot different than the kite-flying Tardelli was doing a few weeks ago when the Irish brass were trying to distract the media and fans from the reality that most of the Ireland squad has quit on Trap. This would actually energise fans and the team and allow Duff a swansong in front of his home fans.
Come back Damien Duff. We desperately need you.
