Manchester United his a new low in their season this afternoon, being completely outplayed by Bournemouth as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag's side came into the game on the back of a decent performance against Chelsea, hoping to continue their push up the table after a good run of form in the league. However, their showing in this game was abysmal in every sense of the word.

Bournemouth dominated the first half, and while they would lead 1-0 at halftime thanks to an early goal from Dominic Solanke, the gap could have been much larger had they not missed a number of other excellent opportunities.

While you would have expected Manchester United to improve in the second half, outside of a brief spell of decent attacking play, they arguably got even worse.

By the time Phillip Billing and Marcos Senesi got two quick-fire goals to put Bournemouth 3-0 up with 17 minutes still to play, the home fans had already given up on the team.

This is the worst result and performance of what has already been a very poor season for Manchester United. Their position in the league does not even tell the full story, with the club having been fortunate to pick up points in quite a few games in recent weeks.

They continue to display with no discernible patterns of play on the pitch, with the same old suspects not really trying a leg as their team struggles around them.

That includes Anthony Martial, who started today despite playing very poorly on every occasion he has featured in recent times.

Speaking on Premier Sports, Damien Delaney absolutely tore into the Frenchman for his lack of effort in the first half of the game.

I can never understand it, he's been nine years at Manchester United. He was torrid up at Newcastle and then was given a chance today...

It's the lack of effort and lack of interest when he gives the ball away. He slows up and doesn't close or press down. He has been given an opportunity to throw down a marker because Marcus Rashford is being made an example of and Hojlund (is rested)...

That is unforgivable.

You could say to me 'what choice did he have', that Hojlund was not being risked due to injury and Rashford is being punished. I'll tell you what, go into the youth team and get an 18-year old kid, because he will run around more than what he did tonight, he will give you more.

Even looking at the bench there, go and take Pellistri and put him as a no. 9, because he will give you more than what that man gives you. How he keeps getting a go in a Manchester United shirt, I will never understand...

[Rashford's] attitude as of late has been as bad as Martial's, but Martial has been doing that for a very long time at Manchester United and keeps getting picked.

Anthony Martial would emerge for the second half, although he would then be substituted in the 56th minute.

In many ways, the Frenchman sums up the problems at Manchester United. He is an overpaid, underperforming big money signing that has somehow been at the club for almost nine years despite never being good enough.

Erik ten Hag is now increasingly likely to become the latest manager to pay for those failings with his job.
