Cristiano Ronaldo Syria message: Ronaldo has recorded a video message on his Instagram account for children currently in Aleppo in Syria and affected by the horrific civil war going on between the Syrian government and rebel forces.
Ronaldo is an ambassador for the charity 'Save The Children' and recently had a 'selfie with Ronaldo' app made in his name, the downloading of which helped contribute to the charity's coffers.
And he tagged the charity in his post, which he called "A message of hope to the children affected by the conflict in Syria".
Hello. This is for children of Syria. We know that you have been suffering a lot. I am a very famous player. But you are the true heroes. Don't lose your hope. The world is with you. We care about you. I am with you.
Nice to see Ronaldo using his profile to try and ease the worries of others. What's more, Ronaldo has made a donation to the charity. In a statement, 'Save The Children' said:
Cristiano Ronaldo's generous donation will help us to support children from Aleppo and across Syria, who have suffered things children should never have to live through.
We are tremendously grateful for his life-changing support. Ronaldo is not only one of the world's most iconic sports figures, but he also has become a beacon of hope for millions of boys and girls worldwide -- and hope is something that Syria's children need now more than ever.
It wouldn't be the first time he's stepped in to try and help out kids - he famously once (when asked just to donate equipment) paid for the whole treatment of a child with a rare brain condition. You might think that it isn't much for a man of his considerable wealth, but there are plenty who don't make the effort.
Fair play, Ron.
