Former Ireland international Tony Cascarino has compared Cristiano Ronaldo’s current situation at Manchester United to Roy Keane’s final days at the club.
Ronaldo has been a frustrated figure at Manchester United this season, starting one league game all season.
He was an unused substitute in the defeat to Manchester City, while he put in a poor display in Manchester United’s Europa League victory over Omionia Nicosia.

Despite reportedly wanting to leave Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, Ronaldo remained at Manchester United, with the club seemingly unable to find a club for the 37-year-old.
Cascarino compares Ronaldo with Keane
Speaking on Talksport, Tony Cascarino claims this situation could end the same way it did for Roy Keane, with the Irish midfielder leaving in 2005 after a fallout with the club.
🤦♂️ “Why keep someone that’s 37?!”
❌ “Ronaldo looks like a player that will play no part! In midweek, he didn’t play well.”
🤨 “Free up the wages & bring someone else! I felt it was wrong to keep him there.”

“Why keep someone that’s 37 years old? Yes, he’s not quite the player he once was, but you aren’t going to utilise him or use him very often.
He looks like a player that is going to play no part. I watched him in midweek, he didn’t play particularly well.
Just cut your ties. You’re freeing up wages to go and bring in somebody else. Ronaldo’s on a lot of money and he wanted to leave. I’m sure he’s not thinking about just money.”
Tony Cascarino made the point that when some players become as big as the club themselves, they should leave when they are not playing, using Roy Keane as an example.
“Roy Keane himself left Manchester United. The moment he became a problem, or was not going to be used by Fergie, he was out the door and gone”
While it is expected that Ronaldo will leave next summer, a move out of Old Trafford could be best for all parties if someone shows interest in Ronaldo.
Manchester United could also use a striker with his wages, with Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial the current options up top.
