Paul Scholes has become the latest ex-Man United player and ex-teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo to stick up for the mildly disgraced superstar, after his disrespectful antics against Spurs last Wednesday.
While Scholes did criticise Ronaldo for his actions, and compared it to a similar incident in his own playing career, which he described as a low point, he also sympathised with the Portuguese striker.
Scholes even went as a far as to suggest that it was Erik ten Hag that had disrespected Ronaldo, and said that Alex Ferguson would have dealt with the situation differently.
"I've heard of a lot of people say Sir Alex 'he'd have gone crazy, he'd have gone mad if this had happened'," began Scholes. "I don't think he would have ever done that. I think with two minutes to go, in a game that's won, in a a game that's comfortable, you bring a young kid on, you bring a young player on, you give him his debut.
I think it's disrespectful towards Cristiano. But it's difficult to say it's disrespectful, because it's the managers job, he's got every right to ask him to come on, to ask anybody to come on.

"But I think with what's happened with Cristiano," continued Scholes. "I think it's quite clear that he isn't in his plans as well, he doesn't see him as part of his team in the big games and in the league games and in the big European games when it comes to late in the competition.
"He sees him more as a substitute, and as I say, Cristiano he's got that stature about him. 37-years-old, it doesn't matter. He thinks he can play every single week and contribute to this team every single week."
