So Cristiano Ronaldo has yet again proved that his off-field persona might actually be fairly sound and in touch with reality, after he paid for an operation on a 10-month-old boy with cortical dysplasia, a brain condition that can cause 30 seizures per day.

Erik Ortiz Cruz needed a €60,000 procedure to remove a part of his brain, before a series of treatments that cost €6,000 apiece. Neighbours in his small town near Toledo ran fundraising collections for Erik, and his case came to Ronaldo's attention when he was asked to donate some boots or kit for a charity auction.

Not only did Cristiano pledge the equipment, he offered to pay for all of Erik's treatment. The Portuguese star is no stranger to charity work with kids, and it's not the first time he's done something like this for a young Real fan.

Fair play to the infinitely wealthy global superstar and sponsor's dream.
