Cristiano Ronaldo is still adored by most Manchester United fans despite ditching Old Trafford in 2009 for Real Madrid.

The Portuguese forward has gone on to become Real Madrid's all time leading goalscorer in no time whilst his old club have struggled to reach the same heights they did when he was there.

Following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson,United have struggled to achieve any success despite spending huge sums of money on players like Juan Mata, Angel Di Maria and Anthony Martial.

The current side seem to be showing glimpses of good play but still look light years away from any of the sides Ronaldo played in.

The Portugal captain has been speaking about LVG's side and believes that they are still a bit off being one of Europe's elite.

For me it's hard to see that because it's a club that I love. Of course I want to see Manchester United at the level that it was in the past.

I like to see the clubs that I like at the top and I think Manchester this season is better, but I think they still have work to do to be at the level of six, seven years ago.

Ronaldo was also inevitably asked about a possible return to Old Trafford in the future to which he gave the same clichéd answer.

As I say many, many times, the future nobody knows. At this moment I am so glad and happy here in Real Madrid, but the future nobody knows.
