The RTÉ panel are often accused of being out of touch with football these days. Their knowledge of European teams often seems restricted to those who played in World Cups, European Championships or the Premier League. 'Well we know this lad from his time at Chelsea...' are words often uttered.
A little over a year ago, Johnny Giles very much had his finger on the pulse of the game. Following Real Madrid's 4-1 win against city rivals Atletico in the Champions League final, Giles had a little hypothesis about Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese scored Real's fourth of the game from the penalty sport in the 120th minute and celebrated this less than crucial goal with an over the top shirtless pose.
Giles told the late Bill O'Herlihy that the celebration was likely pre-planned for commercial reasons and that details would probably emerge later in the week. That they did too, a Spanish newspaper reported that Ronaldo had been posing for a special camera inside the stadium which was recording footage for a documentary film.
Last night there was a little teaser posted on Ronaldo's Twitter account.
