Cristiano Ronaldo has been banned by Spanish authorities for five games after pushing the referee in the back, after he was shown a second yellow for diving in last night's El Clasico.
He has received a one game ban for his second yellow and red card and a four game suspension for pushing the referee, he has also been fined €3,805 for his actions.
Real Madrid manager Zindine Zidane told the press in Spain after the game that they would be appeal his red card.
We played a great game. I could be annoyed maybe by Ronaldo's red card. Perhaps it is not a penalty, but the [second yellow] card is a bit too much. We cannot change that now, although we will try and get him with us on Wednesday.
Although the suspension might be reduced to a three game ban as the second yellow that the Portuguese winger received looked to be harsh as replays show that there was contact between him and Samuel Umtiti, even if that contact was minimal.
Ronaldo now looks set to miss Wednesday's second leg of the Super Cup at home to Barcelona, where Real are 3-1 up from the first leg after goals from Ronaldo and Marco Asensio helped them on their way.
If the ban is not reduced, he will miss the opening four league fixtures of the Real's season against Deportivo, Valencia, Levante and Real Betis but he will be available to play in the Champions League
Zidane and his team should not be overly concerned with his absence as they beat Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup last Tuesday 2-1 with Ronaldo on the bench and they have plenty of firepower up front to choose from with Karim Benzema, Isco and Asensio all impressing in last night's victory.
