Shane Long is a man in demand. There is an orderly queue forming to acquire the services of the Tipperary striker Shane Long. Liverpool, Spurs, and even Juventus have been linked with the Irish forward in the gossip columns and now there's another to add, and for good reason.
The BBC are reporting that Everton have appointed Southampton manager Ronald Koeman as their new boss. It's been long reported, but it's finally some sort of confirmation about the move. Everton will pay Southampton £5 million for the 53-year-old manager.
At the same time, the Southampton Daily Echo are connecting the dots and think that there are a number of Saints who will join him on Merseyside. Virgil van Dyk, Vincent Wanyama and Fraser Forster are mentioned as players who Koeman could try and poach. Van Dyk and Forster both signed long-term deals with Southampton in the last month, so I'm not sure how believable that is.
But Irish eyes will have seen Long linked with another move. This one also appeals to logic and could actually happen. Romulu Lukaku is itching for a move to a Champions League team, and given that Long has produced the form of his life playing under Koeman that would be a great move for all involved.
