Liverpool have agreed a contract with Serbian teenager Marko Grujic as Jurgen Klopp looks to have sealed a deal for his first signing as Liverpool manager. The Red Star Belgrade midfielder will fly in to Liverpool this week after agreeing a five year deal that will see him move to Liverpool in the summer after his club inserted a loan back clause until the end of the season.
Liverpool will pay €7 million for the 18 year old with €1 million being returned as part of the loan deal according to the Liverpool Echo. So, in other words, Liverpool will pay €6 million for the 18 year old.
The central midfielder has been highly coveted by a number of Europe's big hitters after marking out a place for himself in the Red Star midfield at such a tender age. Inter Milan had been top of the queue but a personal intervention from Klopp is thought to have convinced Grujic that he would be best served by a move to the Premier League.
Klopp will be hoping that his first signing will be slightly more of a success than that of his predecessor who had to deal with trying to ship Fabio Borini out of Anfield for a couple of years after signing him in July 2012. And while Grujic may be the first signing of the window, Liverpool fans may be hoping for new goalkeeper and possibly a centre-half after Sunday's defeat to Watford.
Wins over Chelsea and Man City had fans thinking of a push for the title. However, since then, it's been a rather dour run of results in the Premier League with Sunday's 3-0 defeat being the culmination of some very poor performances.
As for Grujic, here's one of those largely pointless scouting highlights videos if you're in to that kind of thing.
