We're keen trackers of the flight of GAA players into the rowdy outcroppings of social media. While we've seen hundreds of GAA players join Twitter in the last 12 months, it struck us that we're yet to identify a GAA manager who'd made the switch . Now, this isn't too shocking of a trend as the number of active coaches/managers on Twitter in pretty slim across world sport (Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is one of the only guys to come to mind). But congratulations are in order to Eamon Fitzmaurice, new Kerry manager, who's has unwittingly become the first GAA manager to have a Twitter profile. Of course Fitzmaurice's @efitz6 Twitter account existed before his appointment as Kerry boss, and we assume his tweets will trickle to a halt once the job gets real in the start of next year, but hell a distinction is a distinction. We hope Davy Fitz and Banty take notice.
EDIT: thanks to Ronan McGuinness, who informed us that new Louth manager Aidan O'Rourke is also on Twitter. I think this would make him the 2nd GAA manager on Twitter.
