While the majority of footballing eyes are on the international scene at the moment, a number of domestic competitions are still ongoing.

The includes the English Conference Premier, where Torquay United took on Hartlepool in the play-off final at Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol with a place in the Football League on the line.

Torquay finished in second place in the division during the regular season, four points ahead of today's opponents.

However, it was Hartlepool that would take the lead through Luke Armstrong in the first half.

They managed to maintain that advantage for the vast majority of the contest despite increasing pressure from the opposition. Just as it looked like they would hang on, we were treated to a moment of pure drama.

Deep into the fifth minute of injury time and with his team having a free-kick out wide, Torquay goalkeeper Lucas Covolan opted to make the long trip to the Hartlepool penalty area.

You can probably guess what happened next.

Incredible scenes, although it's fair to say the cross should have been dealt with far better.

Remarkably, he was far from done from making an impact. After extra time finished with the scores at 1-1, Covolan would save the first two Hartlepool spot-kicks in the shootout.

Unfortunately, his teammates were unable to capitalise on that start as they eventually lost out in sudden death.

Covolan has an interesting story. A native of Brazil, he left the country after failing to make a career at the top level.

He spent some time in Spain before a friend helped him arrange a move to Whitehawk FC, who were playing in England's sixth tier. The goalkeeper would eventually earn a move to Torquay in the Conference Premier.

Of course, this goal will no doubt be drawing comparisons to the effort from compatriot Alisson Becker for Liverpool earlier this season.
