There can now be no doubt, if you're a professional footballer and you randomly pop up on The Rose Of Tralee, you will be rewarded for your appearance.

At least that was the case for the new darling of Irish mammies all over the country, Leandro Bacuna.

After the Aston Villa wide player made an utterly bizarre appearance on this year's Rose of Tralee, where he surprised the Germany Rose (who then forgot who he was), he probably didn't know he was doing himself a favour too. It was a terribly peculiar moment for all involved, but clearly Tim Sherwood liked Bacuna's willingness to be a team player, and as a direct result, he has been awarded a new contract at Aston Villa.

Who knows, if Tom Cleverley offered his words of encouragement via Skype last year, he may still be a Manchester United player.
