After nearly 15 years of being in the employment of ITV, the Daily Mail reports today that Andy Townsend will not have his contract renewed by the broadcaster.
Recently they have lost the rights to the Champions League, Europa League and the FA Cup. So with the lack of football to cover they will no longer be requiring the services of the former Irish international or presenter Matt Smith.
Apparently Townsend has has numerous offers from international broadcasters, so should not be out of work for long.
It was reported back in November that ITV were planning to bid for the Premier League highlights package currently held by the BBC, so either he was no longer seen as part of their plans or their confidence in winning the rights is not high.
Is Clive Tyldesley celebrating or shedding a tear for the loss?
Twitter certainly rejoiced at the news.
Andy Townsend is leaving ITV? Someone must have shouted 'GO ON!' as he was contemplating it.
