It's not often you hear of Premier League managers attributing the success of their side on a band from the local area, but that is exactly what Claudio Ranieri did after his Leicester City side beat Sunderland 4-2 last weekend.
Speaking on Match Of The Day, Ranieri claimed that Kasabian's hit song 'Fire' turned his players into warriors before kick off, and continued to reveal that he is a big fan of the band:
Kasabian are a fantastic rock band from Leicester and I think the guitar man, Serge, is Italian. It's good and I think they [the fans] love fighters. We are fighters.
Yes, Serge Pizzorno is of Italian heritage, but he's probably most widely known for this moment of magic on Soccer AM a few years back, apart from, you know, being in a really famous band.
Pizzorno spoke to NME during the week and he revealed that he had heard Ranieri's comments, and being a Leicester City fan they obviously meant a lot to him.
I think that's up there with the ultimate, I could give all my awards up for that. That will do me. It was the first game as well. For him to say that on Match Of The Day was just, wow.
The form we were on at the back of last season, you prayed that we could just carry on but it seems we have a bit more. To be 3-0 up at half-time on the first day of the season was just incredible.
You don't hear Manuel Pellegrini harping on about Oasis, do you? High praise for Kasabian from The Foxes' boss.
