Getafe's new signing, Ciprian Marica, has been forced into an unexpected name change on the back of his shirt since his arrival in Spain, just in case his last name were to stoke a barrage of abuse from the stands.

In Spanish, 'marica' literally means 'sissy' but it is regularly used as a more colloquial term for homosexual

As a result, the Romanian international, who was signed as a free agent in recent days following his release from Schalke during the summer, will either wear his first name on his shirt, or keep it old school by just leaving it blank.

One has to think whether it's worth all the hassle...
