Cillian 'the only Irishman in the Champions League' Sheridan had a rather interesting night last night. The APOEL Nicosia striker was part of the squad that lifted the Cypriot Cup following a 4-2 win over AEL Limassol. However, that may not have even been the most exciting part of the night.

Following the game, Sheridan posted this rather alarming picture to Instagram.

The Cavan man has explained to us what happened.

I was out warming up to get ready to come on. And while I was out, their fans started throwing flairs and rocks at our bench. One of the flairs landed where my jersey was and caught fire.

I've a broken toe at the minute so while I was sitting on the bench. I wanted to wear running shoes because they're more comfortable for my toe. So that's why I had those with me on the bench.

In what would be an interesting way to end his career in Cyprus, that game may be one of his last games for APOEL. Sheridan is out of contract this summer and has told us that things are currently 'all up in the air at the moment' in terms of where he will be playing his football next year.

APOEL take on Ermis Aradippou knowing that a draw is all that's needed to claim a historic double. Oh and did we mention John Arne Riise scored a cracker for APOEL last night.
