One of the most bewildering things about Aston Villa this season has been their consistent failure to select Ciaran Clark. As Jores Okore and co. have stumbled from one defensive disaster to another, Clark has failed to get into the team. Clark was outstanding for Ireland in both of the play-off games against Bosnia, yet was largely ignored by Remi Garde.
New coach Erick Black handed Clark a rare start against Bournemouth today, but alas it did not go well for Clark. Villa were beaten 2-1, and while Norwich's defeat at Palace means that Villa will not be mathematically down until next weekend, the league are running out of nail's to drive into Villa's coffin.
Clark was badly at fault for Bournemouth's second goal, badly miscontrolling to allow Andy King to steal in to chip Brad Guzan.
Villa fans were not impressed:
Ciaran Clark will never ever be good enough for the premier league. Borderline good enough for championship

Perhaps Clark is better off not playing in that Villa team at all.
