Police have confirmed to the BBC that Newcastle and Ireland defender Ciaran Clark has been attacked in a bar while on holiday in Magaluf.

The incident occurred at 2am on Sunday morning, with a British man in his 30s arrested as a result. Clark was left unconscious and taken to hospital after an argument broke out on the dance floor.

The BBC report that Clark has suffered cuts and bruises to his face, and was taken to a local hospital. It is not yet known if he has been discharged.

Clark was on holidays in Magaluf given Ireland's failure to qualify for the World Cup. The central defender made 20 appearances for Newcastle last season, losing his regular starting place in February.
