Chris Sutton is an incredibly entertaining pundit, but he sometimes seems to rub people up the wrong way. That is especially true of Rangers supporters, and the former Celtic man enjoys poking fun at the blue side of Glasgow.
Reading through the replies to his tweets, you will usually find no shortage of less than complimentary messages. The way things have gone in recent years, such things are to be expected. However, things took a more sinister turn last night.
Sutton's personal phone was directly bombarded with abusive messages over night. What's worse, his young daughter was in possession of the device at the time.
To all the people sending abusive messages. My daughter who is 7 had my phone at a sleepover last night. She has my phone regularly and was called all night. She is very upset. I will be sending photos of the culprits out and passing your details onto the police👍

Speaking at the unveiling of Premier Sports' Premier League broadcast team for the upcoming season in Dublin today, he gave more detail on the incident.
Basically, somebody has obviously given my number out to various people and there was a lot of calls and WhatsApps, actually not a lot, there were hundreds of calls and WhatsApp messages which were, as you can imagine, abusive.
That’s the long and the short of it. The situation is not ideal but I have to deal with it. I don’t understand it, but that’s an issue for others to make of it what they will.
To behave in that manner and phone up during the night, to send messages, it’s not normal, it’s abnormal and I’ll be dealing with it and taking the issue further.
While he is used to receiving abuse on social media, this was a much different affair. This is especially true when it affects members of his family.
On social media anyone can get in touch, I'm not so worried when it's on there.
When it’s a private number and my daughter has my phone a lot. We all have kids and families, you should be able to give your kids your phone.
It's a situation that occurred and wasn’t ideal, upsetting for her and my wife but what can you do? Just take the sensible course of action which is going to the police and reporting it.
