Some people are just unlucky.
Chris Kirkland has seen his first-team opportunities at Sheffield Wednesday become limited due to the excellent performances of Irish international Keiren Westwood, so the veteran keeper would have been delighted when he was told he would be starting in Wednesday's FA Cup Third Round tie at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City.
But Kirkland, who has become famous for the staggering amount of injuries that have followed him throughout his career, almost missed the match as he accidentally tripped while carrying his laundry up the stairs and knocked himself unconscious.
Speaking to Sheffield publication The Star, Kirkland explained:
I was taking the washing upstairs, tripped and knocked myself out. I’ve not played for a while and I wanted to help the team, so there was no way I was going to miss out.
You'd worry about him making a cup of tea at this stage. Not quite as bad as Spanish 'keeper Santiago Canizares famously missing the 2002 World Cup because he dropped a bottle of aftershave on his foot, but still, be careful Chris.
