Chris Hughton has had an interesting coaching career.

Having paid his dues as a coach with Spurs and Ireland, he would eventually get the top job at Newcastle United in 2009. He has proven to be a popular figure at the vast majority of clubs he has worked at since then, including at Birmingham City, Norwich City, and Brighton.

His last job in management came with Nottingham Forest, leaving the City Ground in 2021. There had been a sense, perhaps somewhat unfairly, that his tactical approach was no longer suitable to the modern game.

However, he is now in the running for what could be a very attractive job.

The Athletic are reporting that Chris Hughton is in the frame to become the next manager of Ghana.

The former Ireland defender already has strong links to the 'Black Stars', having acted as a technical advisor in the African nation since February of last year. He also had Ghanaian heritage, with his father having been born in the country.

Their head coach Otto Addo resigned after the World Cup in Qatar, with Ghana finishing bottom of a tough group that also featured Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.

The Ghana FA had been informed prior to the tournament that Addo would be stepping aside and have received around 60 applications for the position, all of which came from outside the country.

It would be fair to assume that Chris Hughton would have the inside track on the other candidates when you consider his familiarity with the squad and football in the nation.

He previously acted as the Ireland assistant manager under Brian Kerr, but has yet to make the move into international management. As one of the strongest nations in African football, this would be an excellent opportunity.
