Chris Hughton is doing a remarkable job at Brighton. Unbeaten after 17 games and one point off the top of the Championship table, there's every possibility that he could be back managing in the Premier League next season. Whether he'll have Richie Towell in midfield to help him achieve that is far from certain though.
Earlier in the week, it was looking likely that a move would soon be completed. However, Towell has since revealed that things have not developed as quickly as he was expecting and although a move to the Championship is still likely, Brighton are not the only club in the race to sign the 24 year old.
That doesn't mean the move is dead in the water of course. Hughton was speaking on Off The Ball on Wednesday and, as you would expect, the link with Towell was brought up and the Brighton manager was up front with the fact that Towell is a player that they 'are aware of'.
Richie’s had a wonderful season so he’s one that yes, of course, we are aware of but we’re conscious that lots of other clubs are also aware of him. His performance and what he’s been able to achieve in that season, I think he’s done very, very well for himself but he’s a player that, yes, we are aware of.
In manager speak, that's about as close as you're likely to get to hearing them say they're trying to sign a player. However, it would seem that, as Towell has said, Brighton are far from the only option.
Clubs from Turkey, Poland and the US have all registered their interest and although the MLS may be enticing from a lifestyle point of view, Towell has set his sights on England. However, it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer to see if that's with Chris Hughton and Brighton.
