While the timing of the move has yet to be determined, it looks all but certain that Chiedozie Ogbene is come towards the end of his tenure at Rotherham United.
The 25-year old has been at the club since 2019, with his reputation growing by a huge amount since then. His exploits at both club and international level over the last 18 months have resulted in the feeling that the former Cork City man has outgrown his current surroundings.
Ogbene's current contract expires at the end of the season, with the player showing little interest in signing a new deal. As a result, he could be on the move this month as Rotherham look to recoup a fee before he leaves on a free transfer this summer.
Rotherham United reject Chiedozie Ogbene bid
A number of clubs have displayed an interest in signing the winger in the January window, with two sides have already submitted bids for his services.
Wales Online are reporting that both Swansea City and Millwall have had bids rejected for Chiedozie Ogbene this month.
It is believed Rotherham United would only consider offers in excess of £2million for the player, the amount they quoted to an unnamed Belgian club who enquired about him last month.
While they would be hesitant to lose the player for nothing in the summer, they may also consider keeping him for the remainder of the campaign if they believe it would make a major difference in their quest to stave off relegation.
Swansea have long held an interest in Ogbene, something that could well intensify in the days ahead. It is believed that they are close to agreeing a deal to sell Michael Obafemi to Burnley, meaning they could have further funds available to strike a deal for his Ireland teammate.
Both Millwall and Swansea will harbour hopes of securing a play-off place in the second half of the season and would represent an upgrade for Chiedozie Ogbene.
It will be interesting to see how this situation develops in the coming weeks.
