A man who impersonated a Premier League footballer has been charged with credit card fraud.

Medi Abalimba ran up a tab of more than £5,000 at a Manchester nightclub while pretending to be Chelsea winger Gabriel Kakuta. The 25-year-old then tried to buy clothing  worth over £20,000 when staff at the Trafford Centre got suspicious and stopped him from making the purchases.

The man was charged with several credit card offences and has been been remanded in custody after appearing in court.

It is beyond comprehension how suspicions weren't raised initially when they thought a Premier League footballer ran up a nightclub tab of only £5,000.
