Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote was forced to apoligise after footage emerged showing him driving while clutching a bottle of champagne. The Sun newspaper broke the story today of the Ivory Coast international's flagrant disregard for anything approaching rules of the road with this splash:
Tiote said in a statement:
"I deeply regret my actions and I am sorry for any offence caused. I realise that as a professional footballer, I have a responsibility to many people, including the club and its supporters and it is important for me to set a good example to others with my behaviour on and off the pitch."
Newcastle have reprimanded Tiote but still named him in today's team to face Chelsea.
And the search for Premier League civilisation goes on.
