After he was outed for having two wives and a mistress over the weekend, Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote has been forced to defend his somewhat unusual living situation.
The Ivory Coast international has confirmed reports that he was married in Abidjan before the start of the Premier League season despite the fact that he is already living with another wife in Newcastle.
The Newcastle Chronicle are reporting is agent, Jean Musampa, has been forced to come out in defence of the situation.
I can say that he did get married and that it is his second marriage. This is nothing unusual. He is a Muslim.
Meanwhile, the Sun are quoting a source close to the midfielder who has expanded upon the situation.
He doesn’t see a problem with having two wives. It’s perfectly acceptable in his culture. He doesn’t see he has done anything wrong and doesn’t know what the fuss is all about.
The Sun are also reporting that, up until recently, Tiote also had a mistress who was 'comfortable' with the situation but decided to go her end the relationship because he ‘used (her) like a mop’.
