Evans returned to play with Chesterfield in June 2016, following his release from prison and the quashing of a rape conviction. Evans was released by Sheffield United in April 2012, when he was convicted of rape. He spent two and a half years in prison before the conviction was quashed by the Court of Appeal. A retrial was ordered, and on October 2016, he was found not guilty.
In his first spell with United, Evans scored 42 goals in 105 league appearances, and in his most recent season at Bramall Lane, he ended the 2011/2012 season with 35 goals and a place in the League One Team of the Season.
At 28, Evans is now poised to have a medical with United once again ahead of their return to the Championship next season. The Blades have enjoyed a superb season, and have sealed automatic promotion to the second tier and the title with a phenomenal 97 points from 45 games. Should they win their final game of the season, they will reach 100 points.
