Ex-Celtic star Charlie Mulgrew has been hailed for his iconic commentary at Hampden Park last night as Scotland held Portugal to a 0-0 draw in the Nations League.

Mulgrew who made 44 appearances for Scotland and 134 appearances for Celtic was on co-comms last night and was hailed as a breath of fresh air for his few brilliant one-liners.

While Mulgrew had a multitude of brilliant one-liners, the best of them came when a superb sidestep from Portugal's Rafael Leao left Celtic's Anthony Ralston falling to his feet in the box, and Mulgrew delivered this cracker.

Screwed Ralston into the deck there, somebody will need to unscrew him!

While Mulgrew had little fear of targeting his own countrymen from inside the gantry, he didn't spare Ronaldo either who found himself on the end of the Scotsman's criticism on more than one occasion.

Mulgrew's hilarious takedown of Ronaldo

Despite a trojan defensive effort from Scotland to hold Portugal scoreless, the game ended in somewhat controversial circumstances when the referee blew for full-time despite Portugal having a corner.

Not known for his calm temperament, the decision left Cristiano Ronaldo railing, with the Portugal star lashing out at the referee and everyone else in Hampden Park for that matter.

While Ronaldo might not have been happy after full-time, he'll be even more disappointed when he hears what Mulgrew had to say about his touch during the fixture.

You don’t often see that from Ronaldo, starting a motorbike. I’ve done it plenty of times but you don’t see it from him.

The quick wit and sharp humour had Scottish football fans calling for the Doncaster defender to become a more regular feature on their TV screens, with one saying "Charlie Mulgrew is 10x better on commentary than Michael Stewart. Hopefully on Scotland games more often" and another claiming "Charlie Mulgrew is the best football pundit around.

In light of Ronaldo's antics, some fans even went as far as sharing this old video of Mulgrew as a joke.
