Few Fans Are Impressed With TV3's Choice Of Champions League Game Tonight

TV3 earned the admiration of many a couple of weeks ago when they eschewed custom to show Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund live on TV, rather than Liverpool's trip to Spartak Moscow. The policy of Irish stations in relation to the Champions League for as long as this writer can remember has been to show Manchester United and Liverpool as often as is possible, given their Irish support base. Failing either of those, Celtic is usually the next option.

On Matchday 2, however, TV3 bucked the trend. Liverpool's trip to Spartak was bumped for Dortmund/Madrid. Tonight, therefore, you may have expected that Liverpool/Maribor would struggle to compete with the heavyweight clash of Spurs and Real Madrid or the potentially rip-roaring contest between Man City and Napoli.

But instead, the station went with Liverpool/Maribor. And if you were to flick on having missed the first 20 minutes, you would find Liverpool 3-0 up against a pack of jokers.

We should advise you of your alternative options: Madrid/Spurs is on Eir Sport, while RTE are showing what could finally be Cork City's coronation at home to Derry City.
