The last time the European Cup semi-finals featured a side from England, Germany, Spain and Italy was 1981. On that occasion, Liverpool defeated Bayern Munich over two legs in the semi-final to progress to the final against Real Madrid, whom they defeated 1-0 in Paris.

If they are to repeat the trick again in 2018, they will take an alternative route, as theyve drawn Roma.

It once again fell to UEFA's ambassador Andriy Shevchenko to draw the balls from the bowl.

Elsewhere, Arsenal landed a nightmare draw in the semi-finals of the Europa League, as they landed a two-legged tie with Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid. The first leg is at the Emirates on Thursday, April 26th with the return at the Wanda Metropolitano a week later on May 3rd. The other semi-final sees Salzburg face Marseille. The winners of each tie will face off in the final in Lyon on Wednesday, May 16th.
