After a pulsating Matchday 6, the draw for the last 16 of the Champions League was made this morning, and it seemed certain that we'd be in for more drama when the best football competition in the world resumes next February.
We didn't expect all the drama to take place this morning, however.
A fascinating draw that served up Messi v Ronaldo had to be rendered null and void when a number of irregularities took place.
3 errors in the initial Champions' League draw:
#1: Manchester United & Villarreal drawn in the same pot when they were in the same group
#2: Liverpool included in the draw for Atletico Madrid, were in same group
#3: Manchester United not included in Atletico Madrid's draw— Get French Football News (@GFFN) December 13, 2021
Liverpool had been handed a sympathetic draw against Salzburg and Chelsea were drawn with Lille.
However the whole thing was tossed in the bin and history was unwritten.
Here's the results of the first Champions League Round of 16:
Real Madrid v Benfica
Manchester City v Villareal
Bayern Munich v Atletico Madrid
Liverpool v Salzburg
Ajax v Inter
Manchester United v PSG
Juventus v Sporting Lisbon
Chelsea v Lille
A second draw took place at 2pm Irish time and here are the results of the revised draw.
Second time lucky! What do we make of this revised #UCL draw? 🤔

While we are denied the Messi-Ronaldo drama, PSG v Real will be tasty as Mbappe faces his likely future team. Liverpool have a much more stern test having to play Inter. Atletico vs Manchester United will surely pack drama, while Chelsea drew Lille for a second time.
