Celtic's hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout phase are alive and kicking after a thrilling 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig on Tuesday night.

The Hoops have endured a mixed start to the competition, with a 5-1 opening night win over Slovan Bratislava followed by a 7-1 whooping at the hands of German giants Borussia Dortmund.

An encouraging 0-0 draw at Europa League champions Atalanta was followed by another German matchup on Tuesday, as Leipzig visited Celtic Park on a massive night for the Scottish champions.

Though the visitors took an early lead through Christoph Baumgartner, it was to turn into a vintage European night for the hosts in Glasgow.

A sensational double from German Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn and a second-half strike from Reo Hatate secured a famous 3-1 win.

The result leaves Celtic with seven points from four games and a real shot of progressing from the group stages for the first time since 2012-13, as the Bhoys proved their resilience in bouncing back from the Dortmund trouncing.

There was an undisputed hero of the night, however, with Kuhn's stunning curled opener setting the tone on a memorable night for Celtic. His post-match antics and comments showed the special impact the Celtic fans have had on him - and vice versa.

Celtic 3-1 RB Leipzig: Nicolas Kuhn becomes hero of Parkhead

As we have come to expect, the atmosphere in Celtic Park on Tuesday night was nothing short of sensational.

This was one of Celtic's finest European results in years and the roar of the home crowd in Glasgow would have sent shivers down the spine of the visitors from minute one.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, the impact of the atmosphere on goalscoring hero Nicolas Kuhn was plain to see. The German forward - who started against his former club Leipzig - said that he believed anything was possible for this Celtic team with the support of the Parkhead faithful.

Kuhn said,

It's unbelievable. The fans were amazing...it was my first and second Champions League goal, I enjoyed it.

I've said it before, at home, anything is possible with our fans. Again, we showed that today. Except the Dortmund game, we've played very good football.

Unbelievable. In the beginning, when you hear the anthem, it's just amazing.

The 24-year-old mentioned the outstanding atmosphere on several occasions during his interview, showing the impact it had had on him and his teammates on the night.

Kuhn was also adamant that his first goal was indeed a shot. We're willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

During his interview, Kuhn was asked about his celebrations with the Green Brigade after the final whistle. As the team celebrated their immense victory with a lap of honour, Kuhn was pushed forward to take the plaudits of Celtic's most devoted section of supporters.

On a special night, Kuhn embraced the cheers of the crowd and led the corner of Celtic Park in a victory dance. Footage from the stands showed the jubilant celebrations from the fans' perspective.
