Celtic were shocked by Rangers in a thrilling Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park this afternoon. Twice Celtic fell behind only to equalise as often, the second coming from Tom Rogic in the second period of extra-time. Ronny Delia's side then lost a dramatic penalty shoot-out 5-4, which you can watch back here.
The man Delia replaced as manager, Neil Lennon, was at the game on punditry duty with Sky Sports, and the recently departed Bolton manager was extremely glum in his assessment of Celtic's performance, saying that Celtic "laboured for most of the day", and that "the better footballing team won".
Lennon said that it pained him to say that, given that he believed that Celtic were consistently the better footballing team in Glasgow during his time in charge. A damning indictment that ended with Lennon proclaiming the "tide has changed". A remarkable admission given that Rangers seem to have usurped Celtic in terms of style of play despite playing in Scotland's lower divisions:
Lennon later went on to bemoan Celtic's season, saying that Delia had a difficult job on his hands to win over Celtic fans after a humiliating defeat. In response to a quite strongly worded question from the host - he quizzed Lennon whether we were seeing the 'slow death' of Delia - Lennon dodged the idea that he was interested in taking the job once again this summer:
If Lennon's aim is to get the Celtic job once more, tt was a virtuoso television performance by Lennon. Helped as it was by another limp display for the Bhoys under Ronny Delia.
