It was an unforgettable evening on England's south coast as Brighton handed Man City their fourth consecutive loss in a row. Second half goals from Joao Pedro and Matt O'Riley were the difference as Brighton overturned a one-goal deficit.
It was O'Riley's contribution that was particularly notable for many neutrals, including fans of Celtic FC. The Danish international joined Brighton from Celtic after a £25m transfer. However he suffered a horror ankle injury in a League Cup game in August against Crawley Town. He made his Premier League debut tonight, coming off the bench in the 57th minute.
Twenty five minutes later, O'Riley had scored his first Premier League goal. It also happened to the winner on a night where Brighton are now up to fourth place and Man City are on the verge of a crisis.
Here's how O'Riley described the goal to Sky Sports after the game.
"I just tried to make the run into the little half space. The manager kept talking about the 8s making those runs and getting diagonals out to the wide man. Sometimes, if you do that enough you end up getting on the end of it yourself. I was just lucky to be there to be honest. I can't really ask for a better Premier League debut especially after the start I had against Crawley. "
There was also a brilliant moment after the match where O'Riley tried to do the Olé to the Brighton supporters, but needed a lesson from a teammate.
Celtic fans delighted for Matt O'Riley
It's fair to say Celtic fans were pretty delighted to see O'Riley get his big moment, who hadn't forgot it was O'Riley's second victory over Man City this season, the first being a preseason friendly between Celtic and Man City in Charlotte, North Carolina, before the deal to Brighton was done.
