In 2014, '42,000 morons' - as they were dubbed by Dermot Keeley - attended the Aviva to see Celtic beat Liverpool 1-0.
This summer's friendly would be part of the International Champions Cup - a tournament founded by the Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.
Celtic and Liverpool, two well-supported clubs in Ireland garnered plenty of interest for that game. However, Barcelona and the chance to see even some of their fringe players would be an even bigger draw.
There were further rumours that Barcelona would have a second friendly scheduled for Dublin - against Liverpool. However, according to Spanish paper Ara, Barca are indeed going to play Liverpool in a friendly this summer but it won't be in Dublin.
The fixtures for this summer's International Champions Cup will officially be announced at 3pm today.
