The second half of the season has seen Republic of Ireland striker Adam Idah rejuvenated at Celtic after joining the Glaswegians on loan from Norwich City.

Idah had fallen into a rut with the Canaries, and it was agreed that a move away from Carrow Road would be best for the Corkman.

His arrival at Parkhead initially caused frustration among Celtic fans, though that was largely down to their inactivity elsewhere in the transfer market. It is safe to say his performances have quietened the doubts about his place in the squad.

Since arriving, the Irish international has scored seven goals in ten Scottish Premiership games, including dramatic last-gasp winners and a strike against Rangers in a topsy-turvy 3-3 draw last month.

With his loan deal set to expire at the end of the season, Idah's future is up in the air - and former Celtic star John Hartson wants the club to make the move permanent.

John Hartson calls for Celtic to complete permanent Adam Idah signing

Hartson knows a thing or two about leading the line for Celtic, having scored over 100 goals for the club during a five-year-stint in the mid-2000s. Several of those goals came on the 2003 run to the UEFA Cup final.

Speaking to the Go Radio Football Show, Hartson said that he felt Adam Idah had proven he belongs at Celtic with his performances this season, and expressed his hope that price would not be an issue for the club.

I like him. He's come to the club and not many people really knew him. I think when they looked him up, they saw he was not overly great at Norwich, in and out of the side. People expected more of a name, more of a high-profile centre-forward...but I think he's got his head down. [He's scored] some big goals as well in that period, and I think he can run in behind. He's got lots of good attributes to his game.

Somebody said to me, 'Would Celtic pay £7 million or £8 million for him?' I'm not quite sure Celtic are in the market to spend that much.

[Hartson would spend] around £4 million. But I think he's somebody who has done enough to merit Celtic signing him. The last thing that you'd want as Celtic is not to take him and then find out that another club takes him away from Norwich, and all of a sudden he becomes magnificent.

I think he's one of them that can improve and I'd like to see him get that opportunity at Celtic. I think he would be a very good signing.

Recent reports in the Scottish press, however, may stretch Celtic's financial restraints referenced by John Hartson. The Scottish Sun reported earlier this week that Idah's price tag has been set at £5 million by Norwich.

Celtic have a big decision on their hands this summer and Irish fans will hope for a strong finish to the season from Idah to hammer home his importance to the Scottish giants.
