After his disastrous showing against Liverpool on Sunday, there is a sense that the clock is ticking on Casemiro's time at Manchester United.
The Brazilian signed for the club in the summer of 2022 and made an instant impact in Erik ten Hag's side, though he has struggled significantly since his impressive debut season with the club.
He found regular game time harder to come by during ten Hag's second season in charge and, when he did play, was significantly off the pace as United struggled both domestically and in Europe.
There were encouraging flashes of form during pre-season and the opening weekends of this campaign, but any hope of a more consistent showing from the 32-year-old came crashing down with Sunday's calamity at Old Trafford.

The ex-Real Madrid man was completely off it against United's bitter rivals at Old Trafford, with his mistakes directly leading to both of Luis Diaz's first-half goals. He was regularly dispossessed and failed on numerous occasions to find teammates with passes, and it was no surprise to see ten Hag hook the Brazilian at half-time.
In the days since Sunday's game, much of the narrative has surrounded what future (if any) Casemiro holds under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
It is no secret that the club listened to offers for Casemiro over the summer, with persistent links to the Saudi Pro League.
However, it seems that Turkey could be a potential destination for the veteran midfielder, with reports linking Galatasaray with a move for Casemiro before the Turkish transfer window shuts.

Report: Galatasaray eyeing move for Manchester United man Casemiro
ESPN reported on Wednesday that Galatasaray have placed Casemiro on their shortlist of midfield options ahead of the final week of the Turkish transfer window.
The Turkish giants are looking to bolster their options in midfield, with former Arsenal man Lucas Torreira currently the standout name at the base of midfield.
ESPN's report suggests that the deal would likely be a season-long loan deal, which would hinge on United continuing to pay a chunk of Casemiro's enormous salary.
Galatasary recently missed out on qualification for the Champions League, losing out to Young Boys 4-2 on aggregate in the playoff round.
However, their 2023-24 campaign will bring back bad memories for Manchester United fans and, indeed, for Casemiro.
The Turkish side were instrumental in United's calamitous group stage exit, taking an unlikely 3-2 win at Old Trafford - thanks in no small part to Casemiro's clumsy sending-off in the second half.
It remains to be seen if a deal will be struck in the closing stages of the transfer window. However, with the recent arrival of Uruguayan star Manuel Ugarte, it is hard to imagine too many Manchester United fans would be disappointed to see Casemiro go.
