Sky Sports' Monday Night Football is the best show on television for fans who want an in-depth look at the tactics deployed in the Premier League, and the mindset of the players and managers that ply their trade there.

Ahead of Chelsea's clash with Middlesbrough, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville provided some support for that argument with an analysis piece you just won't see anywhere else.

It started with former Liverpool man Carragher, who highlighted a truly alarming stat for Man Utd. Jose Mourinho's men are dead last in terms of goals scored away to teams in the top six, with 0.

It's pityful, and it's something United fans are not happy about, but Carragher explained that the reason for that is Mourinho's desire to nullify an opponent's threat if he feels the game could go either way. Using his Real Madrid side against Barcelona, Carragher highlighted this Mourinho's previous use of the tactic.

A fantastic look at how Jose sets his team up for big matches away from home, it's spot on.

Gary Neville then offered his view, and gave a perspective of a Manchester United fan when viewing Mourinho's first year in charge.

Neville feels that Mourinho played so defensively against Arsenal because he does not trust his players yet, and suggested that goals away to big teams were not the problem, it was putting away mid-table sides at home.

The former United captain suggested that judgement should be reserved until Mourinho gets another transfer window.

Again, he makes a lot of valid points.

Man Utd fans will point to several home games against weaker sides that they left not knowing how they failed to win, had those results been different then they would still be in the title race, but the fact is they are not.

BUT, Mourinho can't go as defensive as he did against Arsenal and expect to last at Old Trafford.

Reasonable, informed debate. There's no right or wrong answer when you look at Man Utd's strange season, but this is about as close as you will get to finding one.

There are still large groups of United fans who don't like Carragher, and the same can be said for Liverpool and Neville, but really they are just missing out on the best analysis you can find on TV at this stage.
