Poor auld Xabi Alonso will miss the Champions League final after his yellow card last night condemned him to a suspension. As silly as his mistimed tackle was, many people couldn't understand why he was still on the pitch at that stage anyhow given that – at 3-0 up –Carlo Ancelotti should have done the wise thing and taken him off.
He was asked in the press conference afterwards why he didn't do just that. Going by his response, I'm sure Xabi Alonso of all people will understand.
