In the early hours of the morning, USA quite simply destroyed Japan in the final of the Women's World Cup. When you're 4-0 up after 16 minutes you know you're doing something right, regardless of the stage. When you're 4-0 up after 16 minutes in a World Cup final, you're in dreamland.
Eventually, USA took their foot off the gas to coast to a 5-2 win and there was no doubt about who the hero of the day was. Carli Lloyd scored in the 3rd, 5th and 16th minute to give the US their third World Cup title and her hat-trick completing goal was all kinds of wonderful.
A goal worthy of a World Cup final if ever there was one.
