While he remains an important part of the Liverpool squad, the events of recent days have hammered home the fact that Caoimhín Kelleher needs to leave Anfield to further his career.

The Irishman has been one of the best backup goalkeepers in the game for a number of years now, playing quite a bit last season on the back of an injury for Alisson Becker.

However, there was a sense that this summer was the right time for him to move on from the club. Now 25-years old, he needs to be playing week in, week out in order to make the most of his obvious talents.

Kelleher may have been holding onto hope that he would be made the no.1 at Liverpool at some stage over the next couple of years, although that goal now also looks likely to be dashed. It has been widely reported that the club are about to seal a big money move for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will become their first choice goalkeeper when Alisson opts to move on.

While there has been little news in terms of a potential move for Caoimhín Kelleher this summer, it seems that a couple of clubs are keeping tabs on the situation.

The Irish Independent are reporting that Bournemouth and Wolves are both considering a move for Caoimhín Kelleher this summer.

Those two clubs have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent weeks. Bournemouth were even said to be in the frame to take Mamardashvili on loan for a season after he completes his move to Liverpool, although he nows looks set to stay at Valencia for another year. Meanwhile, Wolves have reportedly made an approach to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal.

Liverpool are said to be seeking a fee of around £25million in order to sell Kelleher this summer, a figure that would not be out of reach for either of the clubs mentioned above.

It remains to be seen how concrete their interest is, although things are likely to become clearer as we enter the final days of the transfer window.

From an Irish perspective, it would be great to see Caoimhín Kelleher become a no.1 in the Premier League this season.
