Caoimhín Kelleher enjoyed his first minutes of the season over the past week, as Liverpool's first-choice shot-stopper Alisson Becker recovered from a mild injury.
Kelleher conceded only one goal in two games against Bournemouth and West Ham, making several impressive saves late in the game against Bournemouth to once again showcase his ever-growing ability between the sticks.
However, that remains the central issue. Kelleher is undoubtedly one of Irish football's brightest talents, but his minutes on the pitch are ultimately solely defined by Alisson's fitness issues, with opportunities few and far between for the Corkonian to step up.
During the last international window, Kelleher openly lamented the fact that Liverpool had not been open to a transfer this summer, to a club where he would have hoped for more regular game time.
It seems as though Anfield will be his home for at least another season but, if he continues to perform both in an Ireland jersey and a Liverpool one (when given the chance), a move will surely be on the cards for Kelleher next summer.
Former Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has set the bar high for where he believes Kelleher could end up.

Former Liverpool goalkeeping coach touts Caoimhín Kelleher as Neuer replacement
Achterberg spoke to the 'You'll Never Talk Alone' podcast this week about his experience working with former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, as well as his read on both Alisson and Caoimhín Kelleher.
It's clear that the Dutch coach rates Kelleher highly.
After 15 years of service to the club, Achterberg followed manager Jurgen Klopp out the door last summer and now works under Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq.
Should Caoimhín Kelleher choose to do likewise and leave Liverpool next summer, Achterberg believes that he would be an excellent replacement for Manuel Neuer at Bayern Munich.
Liverpool have Ali as the number one, that is what's pretty hard to take.
But before he started playing the games, I said to him: 'Caoimh, you just need to get a chance, you're better than [David] de Gea but just because he's playing every week and you're not, you didn't have the chance. I'm pretty sure when you get it you can show everyone what you can do.'
He's ready, he wants to be the number one. I don't know how many conversations the club has had and what conversations there have been because obviously I'm not involved in that.
There was other options to do, maybe send him on loan - but then you need a number two who can do the job.
Caoimhín is more than ready and if Bayern Munich want to take him I think that would be a good choice. He can play at the top level is what he's been showing.
He never really let us down at Liverpool in all the games, he probably was a big part of winning the second League Cup with the amazing saves he made in that final.
Neuer retired from international football in the wake of Euro 2024, and the days are surely numbered for the 38-year-old's career at the top level.
Kelleher has proven himself as a top-level shot-stopper, as well as an excellent distributor of the ball, during his brief stints in the Liverpool team, as well as during his time with Ireland.
If a move away from the Premier League is ultimately the best course of action for Caoimhín Kelleher, Bayern Munich would certainly be an enticing option.
